Qi Adapted ICE Climbing
Qi Adapted ICE Climbing
Adapted Ice Climbing in the Heart of Edmonton
Presented by Qi Creative, Factory Climbing, and Arc’teryx
Ice climbing is inherently dangerous, as you will use ice tools (sharp metal pick axes) and crampons (sharp metal spiked shoes) to climb up an ice wall while wearing a harness and rope. For these reasons, participants will need to ensure that they can demonstrate appropriate awareness of safety, following directions, and have a certain level of physical ability to safely participate in this activity. Below are the requirements to participate in this activity:
Must be 16 years of age or older
Must be able to safely and accurately swing a hammer to drive a nail into wood (swinging the ice tools into hard ice). If one arm/hand is weaker than the other or one arm has limited range of motion, you may still be able to participate.
Must be able to safely and accurately kick a soccer ball with both feet (kicking the crampon spikes into hard ice). If one leg is weaker or has limited range of motion, you may still be able to participate in the activity.
Must be able to wear Ski Boots and walk safely on uneven terrain
Must be able to hang from monkey bars for 5-10 seconds
Must be able to follow directions independently
Those with visual impairments are able to safely participate in this activity (will need to be able to follow verbal instructions on where to place ice tools and crampons)
If you have questions about the program please feel free to contact Trent at trentmagis@qicreative.com
Please note:
Program organizers will contact each participant when they register to make sure the program will be able to meet their individual needs and ensure their successful participation and safety. Registration is not confirmed until Program Organizers have contacted each participant to review individual needs.
Waivers that must be completed:
Edmonton Ski Club Rental Waiver (must be completed if equipment is needed)
What to bring:
Cold Weather clothing - toque that will fit under a helmet, warm gloves, warm socks, long underwear, warm sweater and jacket, ski pants
Make sure you can move in your winter gear and can lift your arms overhead and do a squat
Gloves are preferred over mittens, as they will be easier to hold the ice tools
